Designing Collaborative Workspaces
HomeDesigning Collaborative Workspaces

A new year has arrived and the new office design trends for 2019 are popping out and being shared everywhere to inspire creations and innovation in all types of industries. As the world of workspace design is no exception, ARCHYI. team wanted to share with you, as a “happy new year” treat, the macro and micro trends that we are certain will mark 2019 and beyond.

The culture of work has changed. And now it’s all about being collaborative, flexible and adaptive. And productivity and motivation in the workplace requires comfortable and inspirational workspaces.

The landscape of the workplace is changing more than ever. For ages office spaces meant no more than lonely cubicle. Then, recently, walls have fallen down and a new era arrived: the open- plan collaborative and versatile office.

You have probably already heard or read about “Biophilia”, since it is a concept first popularized by the American biologist, researcher, theorist, naturalist and author, Edward O. Wilson in 1984. Standing for the innate relationship between humans and nature, and concerns the need we have to be continually connected to nature, the interest in biophilia has grown substantially over the last decades, mostly due to the rapid urbanization of the modern world. We started to realize our cities and suburbs have been designed in a way that alienates us from nature and degrades the environment.

Health and wellbeing are essential concerns when thinking, or rethinking workspaces. The success of any workplace – its work methods and processes- depends on just how well prepared for assuring employees safety, comfort and wellness they are. Because that will definitely increase employees’ engagement and productivity.

We all have different ideas of what our ideal workplace would be like. We are all different. For my friend Ana, the ideal workplace would be covered of hello kitty items and if it would have to be a pink overload, for my friend Nuno if there were a couple of star wars props everything would be perfect…

But one thing we all know is that beyond props and décor, there are many other details that truly make a difference and are commonly recognized as essential in a healthy, collaborative workspace.
